Ongoing state funding is expanding access to the Community Schools model for eligible schools across California. ERC partners with LEAs and school sites to plan, implement, evaluate, and sustain Community Schools that respond to the needs of students, families, and communities.
What's Changing
California has established $1 billion in ongoing Proposition 98 funding to sustain existing Community Schools and expand participation to additional eligible school sites. Eligible sites may now opt in to ongoing annual funding and participate as either planning or implementation sites, based on their readiness.

Eligibility is based on prior-year Fall 1 Census Day CALPADS data and CDE-established eligibility.
For 2026-27, LEAs must opt in by November 1, 2026, New Community Schools may use their first two years for planning and development of the required Implementation Plan.
